WHAT IS SCOLIOSIS?

It is one of the most common deformities of the spine. Assuming there is a virtual line parallel to the spine in the middle of the spine, if this line shifts more than 10 degrees, scoliosis occurs.

The lateral flexion seen in the spine occurs when the vertebrae rotate on their own. Therefore, a three-dimensional deformity occurs in the vertebrae of scoliosis.

What are the causes of scoliosis?

It can develop for different reasons such as scoliosis, trauma, congenital developmental disorders. It often occurs early in the developmental age of children and is noticed. Clinical presentations occur when parents notice findings such as an asymmetrical shoulder posture, inconsistency in hip levels, and bulges that can be seen on the back.

WHAT IS KYPHOSIS (humpback)?

Kyphosis is an orthopedic disorder caused by forward bending of the spine. Seen from the back, the spine is normal and straight. Seen from the side, the curvatures of the spine are noticeable. There is a kyphosis (hump) in the upper part of the chest, while there is an inward curvature in the lower part of the spine. The bump may be a small curvature that may not be noticed, or it may present with chronic pain, loss of sensation and strength, or severe deformity.

Kyphosis is more common in the dorsal region. The upper limit of the normal kyphosis angle in this region is 45-50 degrees, and when this degree is exceeded, disease-level kyphosis may be mentioned.

Severe cases of kyphosis can affect the lungs, nerves, and other tissues and organs, causing pain and other problems.
