LIVER TRANSPLANT
The liver, which is the largest and most important organ of the body, selects and stores the substances necessary for the body from the foods we eat and produces the necessary proteins; production and delivery of bile acid to the digestive tract; removal of harmful substances; It has many vital functions, each more important than the other, such as the production of the necessary factors to stop the bleeding that occurs in any part of our body.
There are two types of liver transplants:
1. With cadaveric donor: The concept of cadaveric liver transplantation is the process of transplanting an organ from a deceased individual.
2. With live transmitter: It is a surgical procedure that involves the placement of a piece of liver taken from a living donor (provided that there is enough liver left for the living donor) to the recipient.

Surgical techniques of liver transplantation
Surgical techniques of liver transplantation
1. Orthotropic Liver Transplantation: It is the most commonly used tissue transplantation application. It occurs by separation of the organ from the hepatic artery, portal vein, and suprahepatic, intrahepatic venacava. The new tissue is placed in the same anatomical location and vascular anastomosis is performed and blood supply is provided.
2.Reduced and separated liver tissue transplantation: It is a technique applied to pediatric patients, the organ is divided and adapted to the patient, a small part of it is used for transplantation. This operation technique can correct metabolic defects in pediatric patients with a normally functioning liver.
3. Transplant from a living donor: The left lobe of the liver is taken from a living donor and used for tissue transplantation. The lobe resected from the donor should be large enough to meet the metabolic needs of the recipient. It has been reported that donor survival is 100% and 1-year recipient survival is 80-90% in experienced centers. While hepatic artery thrombosis was once the most common problem, now this problem has been largely overcome with new techniques.
4. Adjunctive heterotopic liver transplantation: In this technique, the donor liver is placed in the paravertebral groove without removing the patient liver. The aim is to save time, especially for patients with high surgical risk.
5. Split liver transplantation: In this technique, a donor graft is used to graft two separate recipients with end-stage liver failure. The small recipient receives the left lobe, or even the left lateral segment may be sufficient if the recipient is a child.
In Which Situations Is Liver Transplant Necessary?
Bleeding in the esophagus
Fluid buildup in the abdomen
