What is Urethroplasty?

Urethroplasty surgery is a surgical technique used in the definitive treatment of urethral stricture. In this surgery, the narrow part is removed and the remaining ends are sewn end to end and joined together. This is called the end-to-end anastomosis urethroplasty technique. In some cases, the narrow part is long and it may not be possible to apply this technique. In this case, a patch is applied to the narrow place of the urethra with a piece of tissue taken from the inner surface of the cheek or lip. This technique is called augmentation urethroplasty technique.

Open urethral stricture surgery involves removing the scar tissue that is causing the stricture in the urinary canal (urethra) and repairing the urinary canal again. If the surgery is performed successfully, the patient can urinate comfortably for life after the surgery.
